Project Brief
As a part of the subject IDG3006 Web of Things i have worked on a project with four other students. The intention behind this project was to create a web-based physical unit using communication technology in order to develop a solution for the Web of Things (WoT). The project is based on interdisciplinary collaboration with Web developers, with a project goal of enhancing efficiency and improving the overall well-being of individuals in their daily lives. The "Bsafer" project is aimed to address the issue of heat stroke among children by developing a solution that alert parents about high temperatures inside a car.

The Assignment
Heat stroke is among the leading causes of non-crash, vehicle-related deaths among children under 14 years of age. On average, about 38 children die in the United States each year and since 1990, more than 943 children have died from heatstroke in hot cars. This is also referred to as "forgotten baby syndrome" which refers to a medical explanation for what happens when parents accidentally leave a baby or small child in a locked car, often ending in a tragic outcome. According to a survey by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 14% of parents say they have left a child alone in a parked vehicle, despite the risk of heat stroke.
The intention of "Bsafer" to create a WoT solution that helps regulate the user when the temperature inside the vehicle is dangerously high and harmful to children. "Bsafer" will induce value in the user by helping the target user. When the temperature exceeds a certain limit, the user will be alarmed. The purpose is to avoid worst-case scenarios such as heat stroke among children and young people. It will also help users in everyday situations by reducing stress, removing some worries and reducing cognitive forgetfulness.

Research question:
"How can we develop a technological solution that prevents children's safety in cars and creates security for parents?"
Primary user group: Parents with young children
Tertiary user group: Children

Main findings from the insight phase
From concept to solution
Our solution
The solution is a smart child seat called Bsafer that involves a child seat. The background for "Bsafer" is to create a WoT solution that helps regulate the user when the temperature inside the vehicle is dangerously high and harmful to children. When the temperature exceeds a certain limit, the user will be alarmed. The purpose is to avoid, in the worst case, crises such as heat stroke in children. "Bsafer" will induce value for parents in everyday life by reducing stressful situations, removing worries, and reducing cognitive forgetfulness. The solution is a web-based device using communication technology.
Since it is a user-friendly product, it is likely to survive competition from other products. "Bsafer" will contain various types of technological functions such as a child seat with an integrated sensor. The sensors will include Raspberry Pi with Sens Hat, which is used to measure temperature. The Raspberry Pi is connected to an MQTT broker that communicates with the Mongo DB database and sends messages to the user. The Mongo DB database also communicates with the front and back end, providing users with temperature and sensor status information through a mobile app. By implementing these technology functions, the solution will deliver the most important information, which corresponds to the user's needs and the goals of the product.
Future development
Our thought for the further development of "Bsafer" involves obtaining a sponsor and being financed by companies that can implement "Bsafer" in their business. An example could be collaboration between our team and "Bsafe", which is one of Norway's leading suppliers to Norwegian industry within HSE labeling and Lockout/Tagout, and can implement our solution in their products. Another collaboration could be with "Trygg Trafikk", which mainly focuses on road safety for everyone.
